Dirac quantum walks with conserved angular momentum

چکیده
A quantum walk (QW) simulating the flat $$(1 + 2)$$ D Dirac equation on a spatial polar grid is constructed. Because fermions are represented by spinors, which do not constitute representation of rotation group $${\mathrm{SO}}(3)$$ , but rather its double cover $${\mathrm{SU}}(2)$$ QW can only be defined globally an extended spacetime where angle extends from 0 to $$4 \pi $$ . The coupling with arbitrary electromagnetic fields also presented. Finally, cylindrical relativistic Landau levels computed explicitly and simulated QW.

Implementing quantum walks using orbital angular momentum of classical light.
We present an implementation scheme for a quantum walk in the orbital angular momentum space of a laser beam. The scheme makes use of a ring interferometer, containing a quarter-wave plate and a q plate. This setup enables one to perform an arbitrary number of quantum walk steps. In addition, the classical nature of the implementation scheme makes it possible to observe the quantum walk evoluti...
متن کاملAngular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics
We begin with a review of the basic concepts involved in the quantum mechanical description of physical systems and the notation we will use in the lectures. The notes in this Section are not intended to provide an introductory course on Quantum Mechanics. They assume the reader has had at least a first course at undergraduate physics level that covers some historical background and reviews the...
متن کاملOptical implementation of one-dimensional quantum random walks using orbital angular momentum of a single photon
Photons can carry orbital angular momentum (OAM), which offers a practical realization of a high-dimensional quantum information carrier. In this paper, by employing OAM of a single photon, we propose an experimental scheme to implement one-dimensional two-state quantum random walks on an infinite line. Furthermore, we show that the scheme can be used to implement one-dimensional three-state qu...
متن کاملThe velocity and angular momentum of a free Dirac electron
It is shown that, in Dirac theory, there is a spatial velocity of a free electron which commutes with the Hamiltonian, so it is a conserved quantity of the motion. Furthermore, there is a spatial orbital angular momentum which also commutes with the Hamiltonian and is a constant of the motion.
متن کاملQuantum Formulation of Fractional Orbital Angular Momentum
The quantum theory of rotation angles (S. M. Barnett and D. T. Pegg, Phys. Rev. A, 41, 3427-3425 (1990)) is generalised to noninteger values of the orbital angular momentum. This requires the introduction of an additional parameter, the orientation of a phase discontinuity associated with fractional values of the orbital angular momentum. We apply our formalism to the propagation of light modes...
